Celebrate the memory of Greg Plitt, one of the most inspirational figures in fitness, with this exclusive video and motivational article.
On January 17, 2015, fitness icon Greg Plitt passed away in Burbank, California, while filming a video for his website. His passing left the entire fitness industry saddened and stunned. At the time of his death, Greg was only 37 years old.
Greg had a longstanding relationship with Bodybuilding.com, including his participation in the fitness plan MFT-28. In fact, we were about to publish an article of Greg’s when word arrived of his death. Out of respect for Greg, we held the piece and published a tribute instead.
Now that more than a year has passed, it seems like an appropriate moment to share that article, as well as a video comprising never-before-seen outtakes from MFT-28. The fitness industry has never seen a motivator quite like Greg, and this content reminds of us of the power of the body of work he left behind, as well as how many lives he changed.—The Editors
At the end of your life, as you say goodbye, the worst possible thing you can feel is regret. It’s that moment where you look back at a previous time and ponder a better outcome or course of action. Depression sets in, all hope is lost, and the clock of life hits zero.
Of course, we can never go back and start a new beginning, but we can take today and begin a new end.
I have a plaque in my bedroom that reads, “Life isn’t measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away!” How many times has that happened in your life? Better yet, how many times have you risked it all to allow it to happen?
Sure, words are cheap in a day and age of visual stimulation and technology. It’s hard to hear yourself think in a world that is constantly filling your attention in a split second. But every once in a while, we have to hit “pause” and go back in time to when we were kids, a time when life had all options and no limits.
I ask you imagine at yourself at age 5, standing before you as a mature adult. Is that child proud of you? Did you become that person he or she dreamed about at night, a person of principle, meaning, one that makes a difference?
We can all fool society, but it’s hard to fool the person staring back at us in the mirror.
“LIFE ISN’T MEASURED BY THE NUMBER OF BREATHS WE TAKE, BUT BY THE MOMENTS THAT TAKE OUR BREATH AWAY.”
Work While The World Rests
Yesterday, I woke up at 5 a.m. to a cold rainy morning in Los Angeles. I looked outside and smiled. I was getting ready for my morning run, and I smiled because I knew I would have the run to myself. The unexpected rain was nothing more than a change to an otherwise boring route.
I recall an amazing natural high filling my body as I approached a car waiting at a stoplight. The driver, sitting in her car with a rain coat on and wipers engaged, looked over at me as if I was crazy. I remember laughing inside, because what most in society see as craziness is truly what feels magical. What looked like “craziness” in this situation was simply a person living his dream and making the most of his time in life.
If you wait for the moment to arise where the situation is perfect for you to take action, you’ll be forever in a holding pattern. The people who leave a mark in life, who leave footsteps and inspiration for others to follow, do not wait to “strike when the iron gets hot.” Rather, they continue to strike and strike again until the blade gets so hot from striking that it will cut through anything.
The difference is that person’s internal confidence. Belief is driving their success. And the external factors of people, situations—or weather—simply can’t hinder it.
Build The Belief, Build The Body
There is no greater high in the world then taking a situation most run from and running right through it. Challenging yourself during the winter will not only ensure the successful beach body you want this summer, it will build the belief that no matter what life throws at you, you can turn it to your advantage and find success.
It comes down to whether you want to run your day or have the day run you. The clock of life will never stop or even slow down. Time is the most valuable resource, and it can never can be taken for granted. Those golden seconds are happening right now as you read this.
